A nine-page operating system for a nursery, built around the three things a nursery is actually judged on — who may take a child home, an allergy that cannot be hidden, and ratio counted on the register as it stands this minute
9-page OS for nurseries, kindergartens and early years settings, in a sugar-paper identity: soft paper grey, rounded Quicksand headings, and a room colour that is DATA rather than decoration — it comes off the room record and follows the child on every screen, so changing a room's colour in Settings changes the whole app. Three things a nursery is judged on, and two of them are built as refusals. FIRST: A CHILD LEAVES WITH A NAMED PERSON ON HIS LIST OR WITH NOBODY. Signing out is not a button — it is a list of faces, and you pick the person standing in front of you. There is no name field, no 'other', and no manager override, because a building where somebody can override it is a building where somebody eventually will. A one-off is granted by the guardian on record, carries a code given at the door, and expires that night. And the list belongs to the parent: staff read it and use it, only a guardian adds to it, from his own page with his own code. SECOND: AN ALLERGY CANNOT BE HIDDEN. Never a field somebody might not scroll to, never collapsed into a count, never a '+2 more'. It is on the child's card, on the kitchen list for every meal, on the day sheet the room works from, and on the fire register that goes out of the door — in a red nothing else in this app is allowed to wear. THIRD: RATIO, counted live on the children actually in the building rather than the ones booked in, with each child taking his share of an adult by HIS age rather than by his room, and with an adult counting only if her paediatric first aid is in date — an apprentice does not count until she is qualified. The rooms sit in the top bar of every screen with their ratio on them, so the one question a manager has all day is answered without a click. Plus the kitchen list built from who is in today and signed per meal by the person who cooked it, the fire register on one printable page with allergies in full, the day sheet that becomes the parent's evening note, sessions and funded hours rather than monthly fees, and a parents' page opened by a code from the enrolment letter rather than a password nobody remembers. The age bands ship as the England numbers and Settings says out loud that they are almost certainly wrong for you: the arithmetic is ours, the numbers are yours, and it is your registration that depends on them.
